WELCOME TO THE HOUSE ON SASCO HILL

We want to take you past lush banks of rhododendrons and beyond the intricate wrought iron gates to an astounding estate.

A graceful sweep of drive fringed with bluestone, clipped hedges and espaliered specimen trees transports one to a world of incredible beauty. Like the iconic sculpture that punctuates the rose granite courtyard, this supremely serene and statuesque residence is a contemporary classic of monumental grandeur that asserts a lyrical artistry and lightness of being that defies gravitas.

This ultimately unique home is the design of the renowned architect Roger Ferris and was inspired by English country manors past, as created by the legendary Edwin Lutyens, Britain’s famous and prolific architect. Heralded for its imaginative adaptations of traditional period style, this extraordinary interpretation embodies a smart, sophisticated, and contemporary take on how we should live in the here and now.

The true genius of the home’s refined design is the unassuming manner by which its 25,000 square feet are distilled into six levels of perfectly proportioned, warm and welcoming rooms. Each richly appointed with magnificent millwork and the finest fixtures and finishes. The glorious result is an inviting family home that rises to any occasion with ease and elegance, be it a dinner for two or an extravaganza for two hundred.  Amenities and accouterments appear on an amazing scale at every turn. And, a lovely accommodating Guest House stands ready to extend the invitation.

Entry to the Main Level is through an imposing two story limestone portico into the embrace of a soaring space that is the Gallery with its mesmerizing marmalade marble floor. To follow, a fantastical first encounter with a seemingly floating wrought iron circular staircase, reminiscent of a most clever M.C. Escher optical illusion. As with many of the home’s remarkable design elements, the impact is both uplifting and immensely impressive.

From this point, all major rooms on the floor emanate in a logical clockwise progression:  Living Room, Library, Family Area, Kitchen and Dining Room. Fabulous floor to ceiling windows and French doors open them all to take full advantage of spectacular views that begin with the golf course of the Country Club of Fairfield, expand to the quaint seafaring Southport Village and its Harbor, stretch to the shimmering Long Island Sound, and finally reach across the waters to a signature Manhattan skyline.

The top of the house is reachable by the floating staircase and an elevator. Here resides the Master Suite – a pinnacle of perfection. The gracious Bedroom with vaulted ceiling opens to a lovely Sitting Room with cozy fireplace. Two elaborate wings accommodate His and Her Baths, Dressing Rooms, and Private Studies.  At 75 feet above sea level, infinite views are captured from each window or on dramatic display from the transcendent terraces.

Directly below the Master Suite are six inviting children and guests bedrooms.   Each possesses a particularly pleasing view and its own private bathroom deliciously dressed in either stone or tile.  Together these rooms share a multipurpose play and media room fit for any activity or occasion.

There is much going on just below the Main Level.  A Cabana room together with a kitchenette, elaborate bath complex and sauna service an oval shaped outdoor pool and its associated expansive limestone clad patio. Also to be found on this level is the exercise room, office, wine cellar, cedar and fur closet, mud rooms, and five garages fit for all manner of vehicles.

Progressing down one level bring you to the Indoor Sports facility.  Get ready for squash, golf, basketball, or dancing!

The lowest level of the House, like its lofty counterparts, is filled with surprises and sunlight. Rounding the corner of a limestone corridor provides a first encounter with the indoor poor – a 75 foot long, Italian tile-lined, blue river that flows in a barrel vault beneath a vast expanse of glass that is the skylight.

As if the inside were not enough, gorgeous gardens and prized plantings await outside. Romping across the sprawling landscape are vast expanses of magnificently manicured lawn fit for all manner of play, apple trees producing perfect pies, and a rose and English Garden that are feasts for the eyes and nose.

At last glance, all is love at first sight. Light is in constant play across the Italian limestone block and brick façade exhibiting a luminous ever changing sun spun shade that is mesmerizing.  Delightful apple green shutters grace the windows, while French doors festooned in gaily striped awnings invite the soft sea breezes.  A vast expanse of brilliant blue sky is backdrop to billowing clouds parading by, just within reach of the abundant balconies and terraces. Crisply carved balustrades line up to salute.

It is, indeed, home to a sublime life lived with joyous exuberance.
